STonX was one of the first open-source Atari ST emulators written - the first version being released in 1995. Because of this, it is known for achieving good performance on old hardware, such as a high-end 80486 and low-end Pentium machines. The other consequence of being developed some time ago, however, is that emulation is not very accurate when compared to more modern emulators such as STeem and SainT. GEM applications run stably and with good performance, however many games and demos do not work.

Target Operating Systems

STonX runs on many UNIX-compatible systems with the X11 window systems - like Linux, BSD and so forth, however ports have also been made to other platforms, including DOS and Amiga OS.
